Sage Trek Trails: A New Era of MTB in the Central Coast

A multi-year vision has finally taken root in the dusty hills of Rancho Alegre: the Sage Trek Trails are officially open. Built from the ground up to serve the mountain bike community, these are the first-ever bike-specific, directional public trails in the region—a milestone that redefines what’s possible for Central Coast riders. Spearheaded by the passionate crew at Sage Trail Alliance, and supported by Trail One Components, the grand opening of Phase 1 marks a massive leap forward for trail access, community collaboration, and purpose-built riding experiences in Santa Barbara County.

These new trails aren’t just a ribbon of dirt in the wilderness—they’re a thoughtfully designed trail system aimed at elevating the riding experience for everyone from first-timers to seasoned shredders. Directional flow trails enhance safety and ride quality, allowing riders to focus on speed, rhythm, and progression. The first phase includes a variety of features and trail styles, setting the tone for what’s to come. Phases 2 and 3 are already in the works, promising more mileage, more features, and more ways to connect with the surrounding landscape.

This project has been years in the making, involving countless hours of digging, planning, and partnership. Filmmaker Jim Bob (@madeherefilms) captured the behind-the-scenes hustle, highlighting the community effort that made it all possible. Sage Trail Alliance has been the backbone of this project, bringing volunteers, donors, and trail advocates together to break ground on something unprecedented. Trail One Components has been proud to help where we can.

Trail One’s commitment goes beyond the trailhead. Through dedicated dig days like this one, and the release of the Sage Alloy pedal—named in honor of the organization—Trail One ensures that $1 from every pedal sale goes directly back to Sage Trail Alliance. It’s gear with a purpose, designed to ride hard while giving back.

The grand opening may have celebrated the completion of Phase 1, but this is just the beginning. With Phases 2 and 3 on the horizon, now is the time to rally behind local trail building efforts. If you're fired up about better bike access and building more purpose-built trail networks, there are two easy ways to show your support: grab a set of Sage Alloy pedals or donate directly to Sage.

Trail building takes time, sweat, and community. The Sage Trek Trails are proof that when riders unite behind a cause, the results speak for themselves.
